He’s now an investor in tech start-ups Airbnb, Foursquare and Flip, and leverages his brand to attract extra attention to them. He has a net worth of over $140 million.

Al Gore (USA) – The US Political System is designed to favor Star profiles. Stars have reached the Presidency every year since Roosevelt (This is the opposite of China, that consistently puts Lord profiles in the top spot). What do Star politicians do when they leave politics? Al Gore has used his brand to continue to promote his ‘Inconvenient Truth’ mission of saving the environment. This is making him money as he goes. He heads climate change investments at famous VC firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, is an Apple Board Director and Google Advisor, and has a net worth of over $100 million.

Meg Whitman (USA) – The previous CEO of eBay, brought in to build eBay into the world’s largest online auction platform, made several deal-making missteps, which led her to leave eBay in 2008. She then went on to spend over 10% of her $1.3 billion fortune on her bid to become Governor of California. Despite spending more than any other candidate, she still lost to Jerry Brown, a Star profile who simply shone brighter during the elections. She has again hit the news in September with her appointment as the new CEO of HP – a company that has gone into the depths of winter.

Howard Shultz (USA) – Shultz grew Starbucks into a global giant after taking it over from the founders, building a net worth of $1.1 billion. His book “Pour your heart into it” is a perfect leadership bible for Supporters. Since 2009, Starbucks has closed 900 stores in the US, and is now going through a period of consolidation, with more of a focus on global distribution deals to sell their coffee rather than new store openings.

Rupert Murdoch (USA) – Several years ago Roger Hamilton predicted that traditional print media would become increasingly sensationalist to try and retain readers, and when it fell, it would do so by going to far, creating news and scandal. Simon Cowell (UK) – A product of the shift in power of media to the Deal Makers, Cowell has built a reality TV platform with the likes of American Idol, the X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. Originally a deal maker for pop bands, he has used this platform to attract talent, and he then makes the money by signing the best talent to his agencies after the public vote them in. He is now worth over £200 million.

Anil Ambani (INDIA) – Reflecting the boom in consumer industries in India, Ambani has made it big in finance and media, recently doing a $825 million deal to bring Steven Spielberg’s studio to India. He is now the fourth richest man in India with $8.8 billion, behind Azim Premi, Laksmi Mittal and his brother, Mukesh Ambani.

Mikhail Fridman (Russia) – Fridman began trading commodities in Russia, and moved to energy trading and then entire processing businesses through his Alfa Capital. Like Soros, he has grown his interest in balance and democracy into politics. Today he is worth $15.1 billion, and has exited many of his holdings.

The shift in the global cycle can be seen by the actions of the leading profiles and how they are operating at any time. As Roger Hamilton says, the shift to the winter phase of business can be seen by not only the wealth of Accumulators but the defensive strategies of the top Traders.

Warren Buffett (USA) – Buffett has been in the Top 3 wealthiest in the world for many years, and is worth over $50 billion. He has followed a text-book accumulator strategy his entire life, and collects appreciating assets through Berkshire Hathaway. In the recent downturn, he has seen an upturn in his own wealth, as he has collected (and profited from) undervalued equities that have since risen in value.

Carlos Slim (Mexico) – Slim is the wealthiest person in the world, and, like Buffett, has focused in one area and stuck there. In Slim’s case, it is in undervalued assets in Mexico, where he has built a dominant position in state utilities, and amassed a fortune of $74 billion.

Li Ka-Shing (China) – Li is the richest person in East Asia, with a net worth of $24 billion. Again, his strategy has been the accumulator strategy of staying focused in one area, finding economies, controlling assets and rising with the tide. Li achieved this in Hong Kong, and continues to evolve his strategy based on cheap areas he can dominate and add value to.

Accumulators profit from downturns, and so make their money when times are tough. In the coming blog, Roger Hamilton will cover the Top 3 Traders in the News. The glory days of traders came and went in the last decade, but will return again.

Sergey Brin (USA) – Sergey is co-founder of Google together with his Mechanic profile partner, Larry Page. Sergey is 38 years old and worth $20 billion. Constantly analyzing data and detail, he has created in Google a perfect example of a Lord business, where it doesn’t need to own the asset (content) because it controls the most effective access to the asset and charges every time.

Lakshmi Mittal (UK) – Originally from India, Lakshmi has become the richest man in England through his steel empire, making him a modern-day Carnegie. Like Sergey, he makes his money by finding efficiencies and then dominates the industry through economies of scale. Today he is worth $38 billion.

Gina Rinehart (Australia) – Another favourite industry for Lords is the mining industry. Gina controls mines in Western Australia and as the Global Economy has gone into winter season, China has stocked up on ore, making Gina the first female billionaire in Australia and the richest Australian with $2 billion in wealth.

Larry Page (USA) – Larry is co-founder of Google, not even 40 yet and already worth $20 billion. Asked what Google’s mission was, he said “Basically, our goal is to organize the world's information and to make it universally accessible and useful.” All the world’s information! That takes a system, and that’s what he’s been working on.

Michael Dell (USA) – Michael is worth $15 billion, and he has rebranding Dell Computers to simply ‘Dell’, so he can use the same system he created to assemble and deliver PCs at low cost to deliver all sorts of other electronic products.

Mark Zuckerberg (USA) –He is 27 years old and worth $14 billion. By next year, he will be worth a multiple of that as Facebook has its IPO potentially at over $100 billion valuation. By then, Facebook will also have over 1 billion members, which makes it the third largest nation in the world by population. The difference? Mark will know his citizens intimately and be able to communicate with them instantly in a way no other government can.

Chinese Whispers: What does a disgraced IMF chief and the US reaching it’s debt limit have to do with World War 2, Isaac Newton and the End to Poverty?

Have you ever played Chinese Whispers? One person whispers a message on to the next, who whispers on to the next, and within ten to twelve rounds the message is unrecognisable from the first. We’ve all seen the news this week on IMF chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, and the media has jumped on the sensational part of the story, but why exactly is he so important, and what exactly is the IMF?

I am a student of flow. Following flow is a philosophy that began in the East and flowed to the West. The Chinese had two types of flow: Nei-Tan (which they called Inner Alchemy) and Wei-Tan (which is Outer Alchemy). Nei-Tan was championed in the 1920s by Carl Jung, who created archetypes out of the I Ching from China (which he was the first to translate) and Wei-Tan was championed by John Maynard Keynes (who was contracted by the victors of the 2^nd World War to create our global monetary system, and the IMF).

John Maynard Keynes, like me, studied at Cambridge University. He was an economist who became obsessed by the work of Isaac Newton. Keynes was fascinated by flow, and saw in Newton a kindrid spirit in what created external flow. You’ve heard of the Chinese ‘Wei-Tan’ in the term “turning lead into gold.” This was both a metaphysical and a physical expression. Newton spent the first half of his life seeking the scientific proof for this (All alchemy is based on the five elements of flow from Chinese philosophy).

Newton’s life’s work flowed in two threads. On the one hand he reported to the monarchy “The Chronology of the Ancients” which was the most thorough research on ancient history including a full blueprint of Solomon’s Temple. He collected secret documents on the philosopher’s stone and the mediums by which all nature flowed. On the other hand, he created an entirely new way of calculating flow, which he first called ‘fluxion’ – as it measured flux – and all secondary maths students now know as ‘calculus’. From his calculations, he wrote Opticks and Principia, which detailed the laws of motion, and Unlike his alchemical works, he published these scientific works, and they became the laws by which modern science was based.

In the second half of his life, Newton moved to London and became Master of the Mint, where he literally had the license to print money. He controlled the entire currency system of the Western World. In this role, Newton outlawed impure metals in currency and moved the pound to the gold standard. Throughout his life he had a philosophy of flow by which all flow had both an identifiable cause and a measurable effect. This principle of ‘causality’ is what struck John Maynard Keynes in his work in economics.

300 years later, it was John Maynard Keynes who collected all Newton’s documents in Cambridge. Keynes saw Newton’s model of flow in finances and used this as the model for a global financial system. While in Cambridge, Keynes made it his mission to collect all Newton’s work, and stated in the presentation of Newton’s Occult work:

“Newton was not the first of the age of reason: He was the last of the magicians.”

In 1944, the allies who had won the 2^nd World War appointed Keynes as the economist to seek a solution to a new world order. Keynes took the principles of flow – that all true flow needs a regulated inlet and a responsible outlet – to create the new entities to bring stability. He created the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to regulate all exchange rates and the means by which currencies were exchanged, and the World Bank to regulate the contribution from this flow to the countries that needed support most to end poverty. He saw global wealth as possible through a partnership of regulated inflow (the IMF) and responsible outflow (the World Bank).

Keynes had a vision that these two bodies, regulating inflow and outflow, could find a solution to poverty. This was Isaac Newton’s vision on a global scale. Like Newton, he returned to the gold standard. He wrote the ‘Treatise on Money’ which insisted that the money saved by individuals and nations should exceed the money spent.

What irony that in the same week that the 2011 Head of the IMF is charged pants-down of indiscretions for illegal liberties that the United States Government announces they have hit their new debt ceiling of $14.3 trillion? The IMF and leading capital institutions have moved so far into excess and self-indulgence that they are unrecognizable from the original intentions of the most famous alchemists:

The tragedy of this side show is that flow continues to return into a devastating feedback loop – to an inevitable self-annihilation. Instead of flow having an inlet and outlet, the outlet has been largely forgotten whilst the inlet continues to feed itself like Monty Python's Mr Creosote. This is a tragic chinese whispers on a global scale, where institutions and nations are behaving in the entirely opposite way than they were originally mandated. What if, as intended, it flowed down instead to those who could benefit most from it, not to old greed and gluttony but to new contribution and creativity, ending poverty in the way that both Newton and Keynes wished for.

My journey to seek a personality test that was relevant for our modern era led me to create Wealth Dynamics (and the corporate version, Talent Dynamics), so no guesses for which of the 5 is my favourite :-) But I have posted this article as it gives some insight into where all psychometric tests come from...

The TOP 5 TESTS for you to choose from

Here is our view of the top five tests today, and how they compare:

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): Launched in 1962, this old classic has been around for close to 50 years. Taking the test results in one of 16 types with titles like “ESTJ” and “INFP”. These refer to four polarities (such as extroversion / introversion and thinking / feeling). The test is used to assess preferences without easy links to strategies or role models, so really require an expert to interpret the results and translate it into effective action.

DISC profile: Launched in 1928, this system is simpler, and more intuitive. DISC refers to the four behaviour types the test assesses: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. It is more focused at behaviours than preferences, but has the same Jungian roots as MBTI, and there are correlations to the two. Teams find DISC easier to grasp and explain back than MBTI, but both systems lack clear strategies for success, or tailored tools for specific industries or modern challenges.

Strength Finder: A more modern test created by Gallup and championed by Marcus Buckingham, Strength Finder focuses at your strengths rather than focusing on preferences or behaviours. The test identifies your top 5 strengths out of a possible 34. Accompanied with a relevant modern philosophy (focus at your strengths and you will be happier and more productive for it), this test is more prescriptive on proactive strategy than MBTI and DISC, but lacks an intuitive model that team members can transfer (Few can remember all 34 strengths, let alone how they relate to each other). It also does not identify top weaknesses, in either individuals or teams.

Do all psychometric tests have the same roots?

A trait of modern man is that we like to take credit for new inventions, but psychometric tests go back 5,000 years. Today’s entire psychometric testing industry is based on the work of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, and his book Psychological Types published in 1921. Jung was the understudy of Sigmund Freud until he broke off with his own theories of psychology. If you have ever heard of the concept of archetypes, synchronicity or the collective unconscious, these are all terms popularized by Carl Jung (as are the Jungian psychometry terms of introvert / extrovert, and sensory / intuitive).

Where did Jung’s information come from? In 1920, a year before he published ‘Psychological Types”, Carl Jung was the first in the west to publish the ancient Chinese text, the I Ching (The book of Changes, said by the Chinese to be the oldest book of humanity, written in 3,000 BC). Richard Wilhelm, who brought the text back from China, explained to Jung the intricacies of the Chinese five elements which are the basis of Chinese Taoist philosophy and the nature of all things (WATER grows WOOD that fuels FIRE that settles to EARTH which mines METAL that flows back to WATER).

These five elements relate to the five factors in the established Five-Factor Model. The structure of the five elements and the ‘Yin’ / ‘Yang’ model of the I Ching Philosophy are the underpinnings for all modern psychometric testing. The Wealth Dynamics system is the only one of the modern systems that goes right back to the roots of where modern psychometric testing comes from, to the primary purpose that the ancient Chinese had within the I Ching.

How do these levels link your personal wealth to our collective movement towards World Wide Wealth? Buckminster Fuller talked in the 1970’s about the ‘Final Exam’. He said that technology had already reached a point where we could solve all the problems of humanity. He saw everything from lack of health care to lack of education to poverty to environmental destruction as distribution problems that humanity had the technology to solve.

He said that the ‘Final Exam’ was our test as to whether our consciousness could accelerate to catch up with technology and solve these world issues, or whether technology would continue to accelerate ahead of our consciousness, and we would fail the exam.

The Wealth Spectrum links your personal wealth to our collective wealth. At one extreme, in infra-red we can’t help the poor by being poor. At the other extreme, we can’t all be legends without any followers. The more we step up the ladder, and begin to have the right people playing, performing and conducting, the better the music will sound. Top 5 Trends to Look Out For

I’m writing this from the NASA Ames Research Park in Silicon Valley, where I’ve just spent the week at Singularity University. Ray Kurzweil (who wrote “The Singularity is Near”) and Peter Diamandis (who founded the X Prize) launched the University as a way to have one place to connect all the exponential technologies that are increasingly merging with each other – Genetics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, robotics and information technology.

The faculty and advisors include industry leaders like Craig Venter, Larry Brilliant, Vint Cerf, James Canton, John Gage, Neil Jacobstein, Astronaut, Dan Barry & Nobel Prize Winner, George Smoot. The question of the week has been how to harness these technologies to solve humanity’s grand challenges.

From the week, here are the five top trends I that I believe are at the right stage to step in – not too early, not too late – and that have small, medium and large opportunities in them, so take your pick!

ROBOTICS – Our machines are coming alive

Eythor Bendor, CEO of Berkeley Bionics, showed us the eLegs, which gives wheelchair users the ability to walk again. The eLegs is a TIME Magazine Top 50 Innovation of 2010. Sebastian Thrun, pioneer of the Google Autonomous Car, brought in the car, and talked about how robot cars would mean an end to road accidents, parking and traffic jams. The cost of components and sensors continue to fall rapidly, which means we are going to see smart automation begin to solve issues from energy conservation and water shortage to mobility and clean streets.

INSTANT PRODUCTS – Download everything

3D Printing takes automation one step further. Imagine ordering a new pair of shoes, cutlery and door knob online from the other side of the world, and then getting it all instantly with no delivery cost or wait. 3D Printers are growing in sophistication, and will be able to print car parts, machinery and home products on demand – dropping shipping cost and down time, and empowering many areas in poverty or crisis.

DEEP DATA – The next layer

The next billion dollar start-ups are likely to come from the next layer of our global network. The first layer (The information layer) connected our public, public data on open web sites. The second layer (The social layer) connected our public, private data on social networks. The third layer (The deep data layer) will connect to this all of our private data so that we can crowd-source our best strategies and solutions.

23andMe tests your DNA from which you can learn things like what health risks you have, your traits and your ancestral origins. Crowd-sourcing this information will lead to focused cures and preventions, as well as learning best practices from ‘people like you’. David Rose showed us his Angelsoft angel investor network, where crowd-sourcing your investment criteria will allow you to find the best links based on other angels with similar investing profiles. This layer will lead to full personalisation taking all your variables into account, from your medication to your children’s education.

INTELLIGENT DESIGN – The invisible web

The dramatic drop in the cost of sensors and immersive technologies, which has led to products like the Xbox Kinect, is moving us to a revolution in design. All Furniture will be intelligent. Touch screens will move from a box to the tables, walls. Homes will wake up and respond to the climate and who’s home. Shops will wake up and give us suggestions and specials based on our online profile and the time of day. Your clothes will power your connections and gadgets. Car Keys will never be lost again.

This design revolution (which is already underway) will mean that everything from urban design to fashion will become an information art. Information science will become a social science.

INTUITIVE INTERBODIES – Knowing Thyself

As all these changes take place, the most interesting to me is the interface between the real and virtual. It could be argued that Facebook beat Myspace not because it had better technology, but a better interface. The same can be said for Google, Apple, and most other recent successes. A great interface comes from understanding humans than mastering technology – The social dynamics, game dynamics and psychology that makes us do one thing and not do another.

As we move from 2D interfaces to 3D interbodies, those who are best at understanding this will make the best products and make the most money. Ironically, our quest towards the Singularity is making the flow of big brains and big money change their focus from making machines work to understanding what makes us work (and play) and why. Having to explain ourselves to our technology is giving us new distinctions of what it means to be human.

My biggest takeaway from the last week is that the disruptions we have experienced in the last twenty years are mere tremors compared to the coming changes. These changes will solve many of the grand challenges we have failed to solve – from cures to cancer to environmental sustainability. Most importantly, the leaders in technology, in design, in finance and in social good are beginning to unite in a way that hasn’t been seen since the Renaissance, 500 years ago.

Here’s my Top 12 recommended Creators to connect with. Earlier this year I posted my Top 12 recommended Supporters and Top 12 Stars. These are extraordinary entrepreneurs from around the world that I have had the wonderful honour of connecting with.

According to the Wealth Dynamics system, Creators are best when they have their head in the clouds. They are constantly creating new products and businesses, and are more interested by the big picture than the small detail. Here is my list of 12 who are in their flow, from all different parts of the world. They are all on Facebook so you can try connecting with them today (if they are not already at their 5,000 limit). Quite a few of them also have a fan page you can join instead.

1. Seth Godin – USA: My favourite author, who walks the talk, selling his permission marketing company to Yahoo! for $30 million. His first book from his experience then lead to 10+ bestselling books. 5% of his Squidoo’s profits go to charity. If you’re wondering which one book to read, read Tribes – and then go out and start one.

2. Steve Chen – USA: Co-founded Youtube with Chad Hurley in 2005 (Yep just five year’s ago). I met Steve & Chad at the Clinton Global Initiative shortly after their $1.65 billion sale of Youtube to Google. The story is typical Creator fairy tale – Have a need, imagine others have the same, start a company to address the need, make a billion dollars...

3. Jack Canfield – USA: Jack is one of the best examples of a Creator who creates the spaces for magic to happen. He did it with the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, which sold over 125 million copies, and again with the Transformational Leadership Council. Create the right structure or environment, and you’ll attract Creators and leaders who will do the rest.

4. Paul Dunn – Singapore: Paul has been an amazing mentor for me, and is now doing great work with Buy1Give1, supporting over 600 projects in 28 countries. Creating one idea to support many companies can often create greater change than creating one company to support many ideas. 5. Don Tolman – USA: Don is the Indiana Jones of whole foods. I’ve toured with Don in Australia and USA, and his speaking preparation is pure Creator style – as little preparation as possible to give genius a chance to shine - And he is a genius. If you’re a little wary of the pharmaceutical industry, and if you want to live a longer, happier, healthier life – listen to Don.

6. Daniel Priestley – UK: Dan launched XL and Wealth Dynamics in the UK, and has built Triumphant Events into a successful event company in London. He’s also just published his book, Key Person of Influence, which gives you the five steps to become a leader in your industry. Follow him for all the latest in marketing, social media and building a solid brand.

7. Bruce Muzik – Dominican Republic: Bruce has used his creator profile to transform his life and now runs his businesses from a beach and a laptop. He also shares how he did it and what he does at his Designer Life blog. Creators need freedom, and finding Creators who haven’t trapped themselves by their own creation is a pleasure to see. The new ePowerPacks for each Wealth Dynamics Profile have launched on Wealth Dynamics Central (www.wealthdynamicscentral.com). We've been working for the last six months on developing one month study packs on each of the Wealth Dynamics profiles - they include video, audio, worksheets to master your profile. Thanks to Topher, Marcus and Hanafi for these. There are a total of 12 ePowerPacks, which expand on the 12 sections of my Your Life, Your Legacy book.

We've been working hard for the last six months on developing product on Wealth Dynamics and the Wealth Spectrum. The result is Wealth Dynamics Central, where you can now visit the section that is most relevant to you. Each starts with a video welcome on the profile and a selection of relevant products and books.

Gordon Ramsey, Donald Trump, Richard Branson & Kate Moss do the tango

"It takes two to tango"

Today Gordon Ramsey reported his £3 million group profits fell last year by, err, £3 million. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is trying to buy back Trump Entertainment, which went bankrupt this year, for the 3rd time.

Reality TV makes an easy star of all Wealth Dynamics profiles. But some (Like Richard Branson) have given it a go and then returned to their wealth creating profile. Branson, like Ramsey, is a creator profile. They are in flow when creating and attracting others to their creations. Being a star means building your own brand - but you can't do both effectively at the same time. Pete Harden says of Ramsay today "He needs to focus more on his restaurants and his cooking, and less on his overseas ventures and television performances.”

When Branson shows up in the press, it's all about Virgin. When Ramsay shows up, it's not about his restaurants - it's all about him. So all that star light is deflected from where it could count most. I reported on the same on Trump (Deal Maker profile) six months ago (before his company went bust), where the winning formula of being a star was the losing formula for a deal maker. Creators need Stars. Stars need dealmakers. Only when we connect with the right dance partners, do we shine on the dance floor.

So while Ramsey (and Trump) continue to dance solo to the media at the expense of their businesses, Branson was in the news dancing with Kate Moss - as a Creator he had picked up a Star to promote Virgin Atlantic (while Virgin books bought the rights to Moss' autobiography for £1m). Branson makes more, Kate makes more, and the music plays on...

The Wealth Dynamics Lighthouse

Do you get the feeling there's too much information and not enough direction for us? What if we could create a structure that directed us to exactly what steps we needed to make, when we need to make them? That's what I've been working on for the last week with Jade and Hanafi in Bali. Earlier this year, after I had begun developing the Wealth Dynamics Spectrum (have a look here for a little more on that), which gave nine levels to each Wealth Profile, I felt it was time to see how effectively we could capture all knowledge on wealth creation.

If you're anything like me, you've evolved your business to the tune of an entire raft of authors and entrepreneurs who have been more than generous with their knowledge. My list ranges from Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Warren Buffett and George Soros to Suze Orman, Robert Kiyosaki, Tim Ferris and Tom Peters. Each one comes from a different perspective, and each is valid at the right moment for the right profile.

So I'm more than a little excited to have constructed a lighthouse that captures all the knowledge at every level of wealth - from the basics of wealth creation to more sophisticated capital building to the economics of currencies and global capital flow. The lighthouse captures within 52 levels the Wealth Spectrum, Wealth Dynamics, Talent Dynamics and something I'll be spending more time on - Phi Dynamics.

It's been a very productive week, and do take the time to watch the first of the three videos I made to get an idea of what the Wealth Dynamics Lighthouse is all about. If it intrigues you, there's another two videos that follow. Hope you enjoy it!
